The POINT Conference - 2012 will be held in Salt Lake City in conjunction with a series of five talks on Italian genealogy (one each day). The tentative list of topics (and the speakers) is as follows:

There will be NO CHARGE to attend these wonderfully instructive sessions nor to conduct research at the Family History Library.

Since there will be no beginner’s class this time, those who feel they need some basic instructions before attending the conference may want to view Ruth’s video on that subject at:

The dates of the presentations—and the conference—will be Monday, August 13, 2012 through Friday, August 17, 2012.

The complete lecture series will be repeated on Saturday, August 18, 2012.

The talks will be in the auditorium of the museum (directly across the courtyard from the library).

Our headquarters for the entire week will be the Plaza Hotel, conveniently located next door to the library. The hotel will provide a limited number of rooms (some have already been taken) from Sunday, August 12, 2012 through Saturday, August 18, 2012, at a reduced rate ($85 for single or double occupancy and $92 for triple or quad occupancy) for those registered for the conference and banquet.

We will have our traditional conference banquet on Friday evening (in the large Eagle Gate Room on the lower level of the hotel).

Our after-dinner program will feature Ruth and Paola telling us how to prepare for a research trip to Italy.

There will be time set aside for those who are researching in a particular region of Italy to get together to discuss their specific research techniques and problems, and we will also have our usual meeting of POINTers In Person chapter leaders and representatives.

There will be a Conference Registration Fee of $45, which includes the Friday evening banquet at the Plaza Hotel and incidental items such as identification badges, refreshments in our Hospitality Room every day (in the Aspen Room, also on the lower level) and possibly an additional genealogy training session. Extra dinner reservations for a spouse or guest will be available for $30.

Conference attendees can check-in and get acquainted on Sunday, August 12, 2012, in the Plaza Hotel lobby (noon - 4pm) or in our Hospitality Room (4pm - 8pm). Also in our Hospitality Room on Monday morning (8am - 10 am).

For those conference attendees who will want to research films at the Library during the conference, Ruth has provided the following current instructions:

Go to:

Under Discover Your Family History, click on Library Catalog. When you get to the catalog, make sure Place-Names appears in the Search Box, and then type in the name of your town in this manner: Italy, Province, Town
Follow the links to your town’s civil or church records. When you get to the record you want, scroll down to see the Film Notes. If the film note says FHL INTL film, it is already in the library; if it says VAULT INTL, it will need to be ordered. Write down the number of each film you will need to order.

Step Two
Go to:

Fill out the order form for microfilms.

Please order at least one week in advance.

Ruth and her very competent staff will also be available to help with reading and interpreting the films and with other forms of research during the week of the conference.
